Infusion TherapyFor sudden deafness (SSHL)/tinnitus/vertigo
Cases of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL), tinnitus and vestibular vertigo have increased over recent years. Common causes are viral middle ear infection and acoustic trauma, for instance after attending a concert.
Possible long-term consequences may be permanent hearing impairment or tinnitus. Early treatment can prevent long-term damage. Infusion therapy with cortisone within ten to fourteen days of the onset of symptoms shows promising results. If treatment is started later than this, the chances for success are reduced, though it may still result in improvement in some cases.
We offer outpatient infusion therapy using a special cortisone protocol to ease patient symptoms and prevent long-term damage. Five to ten infusions are given, each lasting between 30 and 40 minutes. The infusions must be administered daily, without interrupting the treatment.
Neither the costs of the drug nor the infusion therapy itself are covered by the statutory health insurance scheme. They come under the umbrella of IGeL services and are invoiced in accordance with the German Medical Fee Schedule (GebührenordnungfürÄrzte - GOÄ). The relatively high price of the drugs accounts for most of the cost.
