Vertigo What is vertigo?
Vertigo is the sensation that you, or the environment around you, is moving. It can have many causes. These might be disorders of the vestibular (balance) system in the inner ear (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, vestibular neuropathy).
For this reason, ENT is usually one of the first disciplines to be consulted. Discussing your medical history with you as well as a neuro-otological examination (head impulse test - HIT) will either confirm or rule out a vestibular disorder. This will determine the course of treatment.
Further investigations to discover the cause of the vertigo may include consultations with specialists in internal medicine, orthopaedics, neurology, radiology etc.
